Rock Bottom is a deep, nearly charcoal gray with a twist. At first glance, it might read as an almost-black shade, but once you really take it in, you'll notice the subtle greenish-blue depth. It's a very dark teal green color but on the muted side, meaning it has gray undertones, and it's perfect as both an interior or exterior color. At first glance, it might read as an almost-black shade, but once you really take it in, you'll notice the subtle greenish-blue depth. This gives it an earthy, nature-inspired quality that can be both dramatic and soothing at the same time. It’s the kind of color that evokes a sense of calm, but with a bit of edge, which is perfect for creating a modern yet cozy atmosphere. This is one of those colors that would look amazing when color drenching a room. For example, going with a matte finish on the walls and ceiling and then using a satin finish on any trim and molding, all in the same Rock Bottom color... statement!!

If you think Rock Bottom is just for interiors, think again! This color also works wonders on exteriors, particularly when paired with natural surroundings or modern architecture. When used as an exterior color, it will appear a bit more green (not as dark). It’s ideal for creating a modern, sophisticated exterior that still feels warm and approachable. I personally love going all in and creating a monochromatic look with corresponding trim + siding. This color blends beautifully with natural elements such wood (think cedar or white oak), brick and stone, giving your home a grounded, almost organic feel. Want to go a little more subtle with this color outside? Use it on just your front door and let the color POP!

HOW TO BALANCE ROCK BOTTOM

Because Rock Bottom is a deeper color, it’s all about balance when incorporating it into your home. Here are a few tips to keep the look harmonious:

  1. Contrast Light and Dark – Pairing Rock Bottom with lighter colors (think light woods, soft whites, or creamy neutrals) will allow the color to stand out without feeling too heavy.

  2. Natural Textures – Bring in natural elements like wood, leather, and stone to keep the space from feeling too dark or enclosed. These materials will help balance out the depth of the color while adding warmth.

  3. Lighting – When used inside, make sure your space has good lighting. The deeper hues can absorb light, so strategic lighting will help bring out the beauty of the color and prevent the room from feeling too dark.

COORDINATING COLOR PALETTE

It contrasts very well with taupes, blacks and various wood tones. Even some more pigmented whites would be a gorgeous compliment to this color. Here are some ideas, along with links to grab your Samplize samples for mess free sampling:
