KITCHEN DESIGN: WHITE OAK + OFF WHITE + BLACK

There is nothing more classic than a black & white combo, but I love giving it a modern and more earthy + organic spin by incorporating wood tones and using natural elements and finishes to provide the color. If you know me, you know I love texture, too, so I'm always going to opt for a honed or leathered stone. Mix it with some ribbed glass and you've got a well rounded modern + organic kitchen!

For the decor and furnishings, keep the texture going by adding a woven rug and some leather or chunky fabric like a boucle on a set of bar stools.

Paint colors for a space like this should be a warm and pigmented white, nothing too stark. And instead of painting any of the cabinetry or wood elements black, opt for using a black stain instead to allow the wood grain to come through still. Again, I'm all about that texture!

Hardware should be something softer and more antiqued like a brushed gold or aged brass finish. Keep the profiles sleek and simple, nothing too chunky here. For a more modern approach, opt for finger pulls instead.

Lighting should always make a statement. The size of the space will determine the size and quantity of the pendants. For smaller islands, or islands with a more square shape, you can opt for one oversized jump light. For longer islands, you can either go with 2 larger lights or 3 small-medium lights. Either way, use this as a chance to add more interest to the space. A frosted or ribbed glass globe for a more modern look, or a brushed or hammered metal finish for a more organic feel.

Simple colors and natural, textured finishes can create an upscaled space that's still calm and inviting. Share your favorites with me and don't forget to tag me if you use any of these ideas or products in your own kitchen!
